Job description

• Support the Technical Manager in the safe, effective, efficient and economic management of all aspects of the operation, maintenance and overhaul of the vessels.
• Responsible together with the technical manager, for verifying the vessels are compliant with all relevant legislation and the requirements of Classification, producing variance reports for senior management as required.
• Monitor or report on new or current legislation, which may impact on the operation of the ships or the Engineering Department ashore.
• Responsible for the Line Management of all Engineering Staff on company vessels.
• To be available outside of Office hours to respond to Emergency Engineering problems on board the vessels.
• Responsible for the upkeep of the Ship’s Dry Dock and Repair programme, prepare dry dock/ refit specifications, submit to tender, adjudicate tender returns with the technical manager, control and manage dry docks with due regard to agreed timescales and budgets. Responsible for the line management of all engineering personnel present at the dry dock and repair.
• Establish and develop Management Processes
• Conduct regular ship visits to monitor the on board engineering function and to participate in the ISM auditing process.
• Assist in the raising of insurance claims when required
• Provide the Service source of Marine Engineering expertise.
• Provide Marine Engineering technical advice to other Departments within the business, including SMS Towage Ltd and Belfast Towage Ltd.
• Responsible for the Ship’s onboard Maintenance systems and to ensure the Engineering Department databases are in date.
• Conduct, in support of technical manager, periodic inspection of marine assets.
• Manage and promote environmental improvements within the marine sector.
• Oversee procurement matters to ensure best value for money and standards are maintained.
• Liaise with Consultants, shipyards, contractors and suppliers as required by the technical manager.

Requirements:

• Engineering/Marine Degree – Desirable.
• Class One Engineer Certificate or experienced Chief Engineer – Desirable
• At least 2-5 years of relevant shore based experience. – Desirable

• Good communication skills, able to act with tact and diplomacy.
• Ability to handle sensitive information.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills essential.

Experience:

• Experience with implementing and maintaining ISM code/PMS.
• Good people and systems management.
